Anything that doesn’t fit the nationalist, “Glorious Union” narrative is labeled “Lost Cause” mythology—stuff Southerners just made-up after the war for less than honourable reasons.
Southerners, they believe, are particularly creative in their “myth-making” when it comes to General William T. Sherman and his march through Georgia and the Carolinas.
Thankfully we do not have to rely on these so-called “experts” to figure out what Sherman and his army were up to. We can go directly to the people who were there. They seem to be far less confused about what happened to them than these so-called “experts.”
